Couples Therapy

Couples therapy is not about who is right; it is about restoring a connection that currently feels lost. I believe that it is possible to experience deep fulfillment in a partnership if the couple succeeds in building a relationship based on mutual understanding, emotional intimacy, and authentic contact.

When Can Couples Therapy Help?

  • Frequent conflicts, arguments, and the feeling that you are no longer hearing each other;
  • Emotional distancing and a loss of intimacy;
  • A crisis of trust or experienced infidelity;
  • Difficulties making joint decisions or resolving disagreements;
  • Major life changes (birth of a child, relocation, loss) that affect relationship dynamics;
  • Uncertainty regarding the future of the relationship and your shared path.

Couples therapy can be beneficial not only in crisis situations but also when partners wish to strengthen their relationship and develop a deeper mutual understanding.

My Approach to Couples Therapy

I am fascinated by the question of how to integrate two seemingly opposing processes—each partner's movement toward personal growth and autonomy, while simultaneously maintaining the capacity to be in a close and mutually enriching partnership. The philosophy of gestalt therapy, or the "art of contact," is highly suited for couples work, as it allows us to explore precisely what is happening between you in the here and now.

What if the Other Partner Is Not Ready

Therapy can still be valuable even if only one partner reaches out to a therapist. Although relationship dynamics are co-created by both individuals, changes in one partner often influence the overall relationship system. In individual therapy, it is possible to gain a deeper understanding of your own role within the relationship, become aware of repetitive reaction and choice patterns, and explore boundaries, needs, and how contact with your partner is formed

However, if the objective is to work specifically with the couple's mutual dynamics and communication, this is most effective when both partners engage in therapy. If your partner is currently not ready to participate, individual work can still serve as a significant step toward change.
